Pope John Paul Awards 2017

img_5728Congratulations to the nine young people from Clane & Rathcoffey who received their Pope John Paul II Awards from Bishop Denis in the Church of St Peter and St Paul in Portlaoise on Wednesday 6th December with a group of 314 young people from the Diocese.

Our award recipients this year are Jenna Cross and Niall Little (Bronze Awards); Lauren Deay,  Stephen Doyle, Orla Fitzgerald, Roisin Gorman, Oriana Hackett and Cian McKeon (Gold Awards) and Ciara Flaherty (Papal Cross Award).

These young people have been involved in parish and community life in a special way over the past year, taking part in many different aspects of service. Some examples of the ways in which they have used their gifts and talents are: acting as leaders in the Faith Friends programme, singing in the Folk Group and acting as Ministers of the Word and Holy Communion, School Prefect and Mentoring progammes, anti bullying initiatives and training younger children in various sporting, drama and other clubs, fundraising for various charities, School Choir and taking part in parish and diocesan Pilgrimages. Roisin also attended the national celebrations of the tenth anniversary of the Pope John Paul II Awards Scheme in Rome in October with six other young people from our parish as part of a group of eighteen from the Diocese of Kildare & Leighlin.
