Ash Wednesday Blessing

Ash Wednesday Blessing

Ash Wednesday is the beginning of Lent
which is a time of Reflection and Prayer of
40 days before Easter.
The word Lent means ‘Springtime’.

Straw from the Christmas crib
and Palms from Palm Sunday are burnt
to make the Blessed Ashes.

The Ashes remind us of how fragile
and precious life is and of the call of Jesus
to us to renew and change our lives
and to respond to his call to love.

The Ashes are placed on our
forehead with the words

‘Repent and Believe in the Gospel’.

Amen.
