The Clane Church Choir has been in existence since the 1950’s when Sr. Berchmans was the organist. She was succeeded by Sr. Joseph, who remained in charge until the arrival of Mother Perpetua in 1964. Organist, Michael Weedle and Choir Co-ordinator, Máire Weedle arrived in the early 1970s and took over the choir until Michael’s retirement in 2006. Máire and Michael Weedle received the Benemerenti Medal a Papal medal received from the Holy Father for their dedication to the church.

The Choir took part in many broadcast Masses on RTE from the Church and also from the RTE studio. In 1997 and 1998 they won the Feis Ceoil Lombard Murphy Cup for Church Choirs. In 2004 they took part in the Good Friday Liturgy for RTE.

Today, the Choir is under the Musical Direction of Tony Hanway (ATCL) and Barbara Hanway. Tony has worked as a professional musician for over 30 years and studied music with the renowned pianist professor Gerard Shanahan and is Associate Trinity College London. The Choir sings every Sunday at the 11.30 a.m. Mass and for Christmas and Easter celebrations in the Parish. We are a voluntary group of 25 including our Lord Mayor Mr. Dessie Marron one of the original members and who also received the Benemerenti Medal from the Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI, for his dedication and commitment to the church.

We meet on a weekly basis for rehearsals in our Church and new members are always welcome. Our repertoire consists of a wide variety of music and settings for the Mass by modern composers including Liam Lawton and works by the Great Masters, Bach, Mozart, etc. Last year we performed at the Liam Lawton fundraiser concert in aid of the renovation of our church.
