Lent is what we do
In Rwanda, the rains fall harder every year, and families like Uwamahoro’s are left to pick up the pieces.
What used to be rare, once-in-a-generation storms now return every year, before families can even recover from the last.
In 2024, severe weather across Rwanda killed nearly 200 people injured hundreds more and left thousands of homes destroyed or damaged. Each season brings new destruction to homes and crops, before the last can be repaired. It is often women who are carrying the heaviest load. Across Rwanda, they do most of the farming, they gather water, they put food on the table – yet they are too often excluded from the decisions that shape their futures.
That’s why, working with our partners across Rwanda, Trócaire programmes support women to lead community groups and have a say in the choices that affect their families’ lives. For Uwamahoro, every coin is stretched, every step is uphill,
and still she keeps going.
For the Trócaire Box Appeal this Lent, you can help make sure what little they have left.
