Sunday 18th October 2015 was a very unique day in the history of the Catholic Church. Pope Francis, during the World Synod of Bishops on the Family, canonized Louis and Zéile Martin in st Peter’s Square, Rome, in recognition of an industrious Christian family, concerned for others, generous to the poor, and inspired by an exemplary missionary spirit, ever ready to help with parish activities.
They are the parents of St Therese of Lisieux, and are the first husband and wife to be canonized as saints.
It was also a very special event for the Little Way Cancer Support Centre in Clane, as it was represented by Evelyn McKee, Founder of the Centre, and Margaret Brereton, one of the Directors, who travelled to Rome for the celebration.
The Little Way Centre was founded twelve years ago and is named in honour of St Therese of the Little Way. It is a drop-in centre supporting people affected by cancer and their family and friends.
The Centre offers a free service and operates strict rules of confidentiality, which are observed by all volunteers and visitors. this ensures that the Little Way can offer a safe and caring environment for all who visit.
Since its foundation, the centre has been very well supported by the people of Clane and the surrounding areas.
